"So Far Away" by Meg Mitchell Moore

It's been a long time since I just couldn't get into a book or feel one way or another but So Far Away by Meg Mitchell Moore left me feeling that way. I was hopeful until I realized it wasn't going to happen with this fiction book. I love Meg Mitchell Moore's books and having read almost all of them, I was excited, and the summary was promising for another book by her I would like, but it just fell flat all the way around.
Nathalie Gallagher is a freshman in high school, and her best friend, Hannah Morgan, has found a new friend, and they are now bullying Nathalie plus her parents are going through a divorce. While Nathalie is a little lost, she is also excited about an English project; she goes to the archives in Boston to work on tracing her family tree. That is where she meets Kathleen Lynch, who works at the archives. The pair forge an interesting relationship while learning about Nathalie's family history.
The book follows Nathalie and Kathleen's relationship while telling the story of Nathalie's ancestors.
The storyline is not cohesive, and it never comes together very well, leaving you with holes like you're missing something. None of the characters are likeable, and you question some of their decisions and how it all comes together in the end.
Each aspect of the book leaves the reader feeling okay, and nothing really changes the way you feel throughout the book.
So Far Away by Meg Mitchell Moore is a book you can skip!
