But I still liked it.

Book Review for After I Do by Taylor Jenkins Reid

I'm a huge Taylor Jenkins Reid fan, and I haven't found a book of hers I've hated or not been able to finish. Of course, that doesn't mean all of her books are created equally. While I liked After I Do, I did not love it.

The novel takes place in the present time, where we meet Lauren Spencer Cooper, and the story is told entirely from her perspective. At 19, Lauren fell in love with Ryan Cooper in college, and the two have been married for 5 years and together for 11. They have always had a good, healthy relationship, but things have started to crumble for the pair, and they don't know how to fix their marriage. While they both know things are falling apart, they are unsure where to go from here. They try to come up with solutions, everything from compromising on where to eat to marriage counseling, but nothing seems like the right solution.

The couple comes up with a plan to have a year-long break with no communication. Ryan will move out of the house, and they will see how they feel and where their relationship is once the year is over.

Since the story is told from Lauren's perspective, we only really follow her throughout the year, and we see how she deals with the break, dating, finding herself, and healing. We also see her relationship with her friends and family grow throughout the year.

After I Do was a good book, and it was a quick read, but it just wasn't as good as some of Reid's other books. I would still recommend the novel, but I would suggest reading some of her other books first.
