Maybe you just finished reading a long or slow book, haven't read in a while, or need something different. Whatever the reason you need to get out of your reading slump and try something new.

  1. Try A New Author: Finding an author you like is an amazing part of the reading journey. You can't wait to read the next book and can't get enough you also know what you are getting from the book. I found Meg Mitchell Moore by accident, but every time I pick up one of her books I know it will be a book I enjoy and am excited to read.

  2. Try A New Genre: We like what we like and it's hard to try something new and step out of our comfort zone but sometimes it's the shake-up we might need to get out of our reading slump. Thrillers are not my favorite but when the book club picked Everyone Here is Lying by Shari Lapena a thriller I started listening and was hooked and loved the book, it was just what I needed.

  3. Go In The Opposite Direction: Have you been reading a lot of romantic comedy, historical fiction, or maybe really slow books? Whatever it is try something that is the complete opposite. I had just read two long drawn-out books but felt tired and needed something else so I read Taylor Jenkins Reid's Evidence Of The Affair the short story (only 100 pages) written in only letter format was the something different I needed.

  4. Try A New Medium: Maybe you have been listening to or reading books on your Kindle. Try an actual book or listening to a book. Change isn't always a bad thing.

  5. Ask A Friend: Ask a friend or family member for suggestions and recommendations. Then take their suggestions and dive in. It may be something you would never think of reading but I can promise you will be surprised at how much you may like the recommendation.

Reading slumps come in all shapes and sizes but these methods will help you move on from your reading slump.
