A mystery to get cozy with.

After reading romcoms and beach reads I was ready for something completely different, so I chose An Unwanted Guest by Shari Lapena. I had read Everyone Here is Lying and was excited for another page-turning mystery.

Unfortunately, this wasn't as good as Everyone Here Is Lying but it was still a good mystery just missing that can't put down feeling.

Twelve strangers are headed to a secluded inn in the Catskills for a winter weekend away, but with a winter storm approaching it ends up being more of a weekend with no power, dangerous conditions, and cold weather. The group includes the hotel owner, his son, a couple that has just started dating, a pair of friends, a married couple on the brink of divorce, a wealthy engaged couple, an attorney with a dark past, and a writer. Each to have a quiet weekend away but they will leave this weekend away different than when they arrived.

As people slowly start to be killed off each guest will soon realize no one is safe at the inn. Stuck with no communication to the outside world they call all speculate and hope to survive the weekend.

The book was a whodunnit a genre I typically don't read and surprised at how much I liked the plot. Reading this book was like watching a game of Clue unfold right. I found the book slow at times with lots of details that seemed to drag on while the mystery kept me engaged and interested.

An Unwanted Guest by Shari Lapena is a cozy mystery for your winter reading list.
