A good read.

Summer Stage by Meg Mitchell Moore hit the spot for a good summer read as her books always do with the novel set on the small island of Block Island off the coast of Rhode Island. A family comes together to put on a Shakespeare play, but can they revive the famous play while sorting out their issues?

Timothy Fleming is a famous actor who was raised on Block Island he regrets letting his ex-wife Gertie Sanger go but she has asked him to direct the play on the island he grew up on. Amy Trevino is a high school English teacher married with two teenage children and lives a pretty typical life. However, Amy has unresolved issues with her brother Timothy who has asked her to manage the summer play. Sam Trevino had a brief acting career as a child and rose to fame with her involvement with a TikTok collab house in New York City and she winds up back at her parent's house leaving her mom Amy with lots of questions. Sam turns to her Uncle Timothy to escape to Block Island for the summer.

The story is told from the three perspectives of Timothy, Amy, and Sam. Moore interwinds the stories of all three characters while allowing them to work out their issues with one another and find self-discovery along the way. Each character will find the answers they are looking for while reflecting on the play they are putting on.

While I loved this book it was slow at times with several background characters that could have been eliminated to have more focus on the main characters. Sam tells the most important aspect of the story, especially in the world of technology we live in today. The theme of this novel is self-discovery and appreciating the life you lead no matter what it looks like from the outside.

Summer Stage by Meg Mitchell Moore is a perfect read for any time and you shouldn't hold off till next summer because of the title.
